David E. Schlegel, principal Broker and President of Property Marketing of Hawaii Inc, grew up on the beautiful coast of N. San Diego County in California and thus has a love for seaside communities. As a result, in 1970 Dave purchased a property in Cardiff-By-The-Sea. During the transaction, the selling broker was very impressed with Dave's openness and honesty. He invited Dave to become part of his real estate team.

For the next nine years, Dave was very successful, selling oceanfront homes, condominiums, and vacant land. By 1979, urban sprawl had turned the quiet little beach communities of San Diego into cities.

That year Dave discovered paradise in Kona Hawaii. He and his wife Sandra moved to Kailua-Kona, on the Big Island, in February 1979 and never looked back. During his 31 years on the Kona-Kohala coast Dave has ridden out several boom and bust real estate economies, and sold everything from inexpensive starter homes to multimillion-dollar oceanfront estates. In March of 1986, Dave was the first Realtor to break the million-dollar barrier on Kona's famous Alii Dr. when he sold the first properties in exclusive Alii Point for $1.175 million.
